Let’s be honest: who only uses the television to watch television?
These are the IFA trends for 2019
Photo series with 28 pictures
Let’s be honest: who only uses the television to watch television? Thanks to various connections, TV boxes and Internet access, modern TV sets have long ceased to be pure playback devices. The devices shown at the electronics fair IFA (public days: September 6th to 11th) set different trends.
New image for old content too
Manufacturers have been saying it for years, but the picture is actually getting better and better on modern televisions. In the opinion of Sebastian Klöß, consultant for consumer electronics at the IT association Bitkom, image enhancement is one, if not the most important topic at the moment. The displays now show deep black night skies, bright and clear colors and great contrasts. The manufacturers rely on machine learning. "The device recognizes what kind of signals I am getting and how do I play them out optimally", explains Klöß.

On modern 4K screens (3,820 to 2,160 pixels), good quality image material is shown that actually has a lower resolution or was not filmed with extended color and contrast space (HDR).
4K is today, 8K is the day after tomorrow
4K televisions have only just established themselves in living rooms, and 8K is already around the corner. A small comparison: 4K stands for a resolution of eight megapixels (3,840 to 2,160 pixels), 8K is a full 33.2 megapixels (7,680 to 4,320 pixels). The first – still very expensive – devices have been around since last year, and this year there will be more. And do you need that? "For most of them, 8K only becomes interesting a little later"says Klöß. So far, 4K has been enough.
So far there is hardly any material in this high resolution. But only the screens are growing – and not the rooms in which they are located. Therefore, more pixels have to be on the displays for a pixel-free image.
Samsung, for example, is showing the first examples of its Artificial Intelligence at IFA, which can extrapolate any video images into amazingly detailed 8K videos. The system uses a well-trained database with innumerable image examples and creates a high-resolution TV image from the initial data in real time.
The first 8K broadcasts of the Tokyo Olympic Games should be available around 2020, and further content will certainly follow. Nobody really knows when 8K is normal on TV.
Sculptures and hidden televisions
After the television as a picture frame, to roll up or as a sculpture, it continues with televisions that actually no longer look like televisions. The latest example: the transparent display. Panasonic is showing a TV set with a transparent OLED display at the IFA. The necessary technology is hidden in the wooden frame. When the device will be available is just as little known as the possible purchase price.
Such design devices are, of course, more for the four-digit price range and tend to run short for the average buyer "good to know". According to the home electronics index HEMIX 2019, the average telly cost around 560 euros in the first half of 2019.

40 channels? No, 40 providers
TV channels, Netflix, DAZN, Prime, Waipu, Maxdome, Joyn. The list of possible sources for a modern television is long. And while fewer and fewer satellite receivers, Blu-ray players or TV set-top boxes are being sold, the number of streaming offers is growing. With Disney and Warner, two new heavyweights with their own offerings are in the starting blocks, Apple is also constantly upgrading its film and series offerings, and Rakuten TV has also been available in Germany since April.
With Joyn, a German provider is also entering the market.https://123helpme.me/argumentative-essay/ He not only wants to show the public broadcasters and those of the ProSiebenSat.1 media family, but also to integrate other offers such as Maxdome and the Eurosport Player.
Purchased buttons and clever software
The plus in streaming service, which is fighting for the favor of the TV showers, also affects the remote control. While there used to be one Netflix button, there are now models with three or more fixed buttons for streaming providers.
And the software is also changing – after all, you should keep track of all the channels. Samsung’s TV software, for example, treats each individual source as it did a TV channel in the past. If you switch on the TV, you will end up with the last program watched – regardless of whether it was actually a TV station, the console, a TV box or a streaming service.
Amazon’s streaming portal Fire TV – available on boxes, sticks and recently also on televisions – searches all available apps and streaming services for the desired content, and not just those from Amazon. Samsung’s Smart Hub takes a very similar route.
And voice control via digital assistants should of course no longer be missing. The Fire TV Edition TVs from Amazon, Grundig and o.k. are almost completely controllable by the Alexa voice assistant.
Not only series but also games are streamed
Together with game consoles, the television has long been a popular device for video games. In 2020 it may become even more important for gamers – without a console. The keyword is cloud gaming and specifically Google Stadia.
With this service, you only stream the video image of a game; the arithmetic work is done by powerful computers in large data centers. TV owners need Google’s Chromecast Ultra streaming stick and a controller – the corresponding games sometimes cost extra.

And Stadia doesn’t stop there. Telekom and Vodafone (initially only for Android TV) have announced corresponding offers. The Internet connections are still a possible brake. Google requires between ten and 25 megabits per second (Mbit / s), and Telekom requires an in-house connection with 50 Mbit / s.

For many users, a digital camera is not just a device that takes pictures. For them, a digital camera has to be chic, match the outfit, in short: look appealing. Manufacturers respond to these wishes by bringing camera models onto the market in different colors – to match the handbag, clothing, person. The digital camera thus becomes an accessory that must be with you everywhere. So it should also be as compact and light as possible so that it doesn’t get in the way.
In order to keep the camera housing as small as possible, many manufacturers do without a viewfinder in their compact models. The lens is also often developed in such a way that it does not extend or only extends to a limited extent when zooming. Even the controls often fall victim to a slimming diet. This can be at the expense of usability, but it makes a digital camera particularly compact.
Of course, the weight of a digital camera should also be as low as possible so that it is ideal for use on the go. Manufacturers rely on plastic housings or particularly light metal here. But low weight also has disadvantages: With a light digital camera, for example, there is a higher risk of blurring an image. More massive models are better in the hand and are more cumbersome. We have a compromise between "light" and "Well" closed and present you the camera lightweights up to 150 grams with the best image quality on the following pages. The specified weight includes the memory card and battery.

Nikon Coolpix S570 (1st place)
The Nikon Coolpix S570 did well in our image quality tests, even if it had minor resolution issues. The great noise behavior and the high dynamic range made up for this.
For a 12-megapixel camera, the Nikon Coolpix S570 produced little image noise even at high ISO values. The input dynamic was also very high, which means that the candidate can also reproduce high-contrast motifs without lights burning out and shadows drowning. The initial dynamics, which indicates the number of brightness levels between the lightest and darkest areas of the image, were only satisfactory. With short and medium focal lengths, the resolution of the Nikon Coolpix S570 was almost identical, but fell by around 30 percentage points towards the edge of the image. With a long focal length, the measured value was somewhat more even, but was at least 15 percentage points below the results in the wide-angle and normal range. Overall, this resulted in a satisfactory level of efficiency for the Nikon Coolpix S570.
We liked the menu navigation of the Nikon Coolpix S570. However, the camera took a long time to release and to be ready for use again after taking a picture.
Although the Nikon Coolpix S570 can almost be counted among the super zoomers due to its 5x zoom lens, Nikon only treats it to a digital image stabilizer. After all, the lens delivers an initial light intensity of f2.7 in the wide angle – with a focal length of 28 to 140 millimeters. The Nikon Coolpix S570 has some special functions such as exposure compensation D-Lighting, face detection with smile and blink mode, in which the camera takes two pictures and saves them with the eyes open, as well as a beauty mode, which compensates for blemishes using a soft focus .
Samsung L100 (2nd place)
The only important point of criticism of the Samsung L100 was the only moderate input dynamics. Otherwise, the camera took good pictures and was easy to use. However, you should always have the proprietary USB cable with you for data transfer.
The camera’s noise behavior was excellent – it wasn’t until ISO 1600, the highest possible setting, that the result was no longer acceptable. The L100 also achieves a very good result in terms of resolution. The resolution was very even when viewed over the entire measuring range, but decreased by around 20 percentage points towards the edge of the image. On the other hand, we had reason to complain about the input dynamics (number of possible f-stops), which were only mediocre. In return, we were able to certify that the Samsung model had a very high output dynamic, which means that the camera works with many levels of brightness.
The Samsung L100 offers several options for image processing. You can add a color filter to images using the Effect button. Brightness, sharpness, contrast and saturation can also be adjusted at the push of a button. The L100 uses a proprietary USB cable that can also be connected to the power plug and thus charges the battery in the camera. Otherwise, the camera is equipped with a manual mode, which only offers an alternative to the automatically selected aperture. For the shutter speed, however, there are several options to choose from.
Samsung ES60 (3rd place)
Samsung’s entry-level camera ES60 took good pictures, was properly equipped and was user-friendly. All of this is available at a low price – newcomers to photography cannot expect more.
The Samsung ES60 worked with a high average efficiency. The resolution was fairly even across the entire focal length range. However, it decreased by about 20 percentage points towards the edge of the picture, which is a lot, but still acceptable. The Samsung ES60 was also able to convince us in terms of image noise. Only at ISO 400 did we discover slight image noise, at ISO 1600 – the highest possible sensitivity – the result was still sufficient. The Samsung ES60 achieved very high input and output dynamics. This means that the camera can also show high-contrast subjects with lots of details without burning out lights and shadows. In addition, the Samsung ES60 produces many levels of brightness between the lightest and darkest areas of the image.
The Samsung ES60 is an entry-level camera, and its equipment is designed accordingly. However, it is equipped with face recognition including smile shot and blink warning, a beauty mode and various motif programs. Saturation, contrast and sharpness can be adjusted in five steps on the Samsung ES60.
Use the menu button to select the recording mode of the Samsung ES60 (fully automatic, program automatic, scene programs, video mode or recording with electronic image stabilization). You can access the image parameters via the Fn button, which takes over the delete function in play mode. The Samsung ES60 triggered fairly quickly and was ready for use again quickly after the exposure.
Olympus Mju 5000 (4th place)
Thanks to its decent image quality, uncomplicated operation and a reasonable price, we can definitely recommend the Olympus Mju 5000 for beginners. Especially their automatic modes and the image enhancements à la red-eye retouching and exposure compensation are ideal for newcomers to photography.
The resolution of the Mju 5000 was almost the same across the entire focal length range. However, it decreased a little towards the edge of the picture, so that we could only attest the 12 megapixel camera a satisfactory level of efficiency. The starting momentum was also only satisfactory. It describes the richness of tonal values of the camera, i.e. how many intermediate levels it can display between the lightest and darkest areas of the image.
